- Live in the arctic regions of North America and Siberia
- Biologists estimate that there are around 20,000 polar bears in the wild
- They prefer to live and hunt where the sea ice meets the sea
- Polar bears are insulated by a 4½ inch layer of blubber under their skin
- They are superb swimmers, travelling at 6 mph, and they can travel huge distances by swimming
- Adult polar bears do have solitary lives
- Mother polar bears usually have one or two cubs
- Male polar bears can live up to 20 years old
- Female polar bears on the other hand can live up to 30 years old
- Male polar bears can weigh up to 1,700 pounds
- On 14th May 2008 polar bears were listed under the Endangered Species Act
