  • The Blue Cross

Known as Britain’s Pet Charity, the mission of The Blue Cross is to:

“Provide care, promote companionship, enhance animal and human lives.”

The Blue Cross is a UK-based animal welfare charity. It was originally founded all the way back in 1897, known initially as ‘Our Dumb Friends’ League’. The charity officially became known as The Blue Cross in 1958.

Over the years The Blue Cross has had some notable successes. For example, in 1964 the charity finally persuaded the Irish government to ban the export of horse meat. This came after 13 years of campaigning.

Throughout the years numerous adoption centres have also been opened up across the country, and in 1997 the Queen become The Blue Cross’ patron, illustrating the invaluable work that The Blue Cross has done for animal welfare in the UK.
