Facts and Figures
- Predominantly found in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Tibet
- Tiger numbers have fallen to 2,500, a decline of 95%
- Despite the large fall the Bengal tiger is still the most widespread tiger subspecies
- Male Bengal tigers are around 300cm in length, with female tigers smaller at 250cm
- Males can weigh up to 600 lb, with females closer to 350 lb
- Bengal tigers can travel up to 14km in a day
- Classed as obligate carnivores as their diet only consists of meat
- Can consume up to 60 lbs of meat at a time
- Poaching for their skin and body parts is a major problem
- Also endangered due to habitat-loss due to farming and logging, conflict with humans, and decline in prey
